This course is intended to provide an understanding of the principles of glaze technology by considering certain aspects of glass structure and glaze compositions. It provides an introduction to the composition of glaze batches and their materials and reviews the main glaze types which may be encountered. The main methods of batch preparation and application are described as are routine tests for glazes in preparation and service.
If you are working in or with ceramics, whether sanitaryware, tiles, tableware, bricks or an independent maker and you have an interest in learning more about glazing methods in ceramics, then this course is of benefit to you. To make the most of this course, a basic understanding of ceramics or materials is advised. However, there are no specific pre-requisites to this course meaning even if you are not familiar with ceramics, you will still be able to benefit from this course and increase your understanding.
